What we collect
- Account basics: your first name and the age band you picked. These stay on your phone.
- Learning progress: shifts done, answers, streaks, XP, league and settings.
- Talk to Smol: when you tap the mic, your recording is sent to Groq to turn it into text, the text goes to OpenAI to write Smol's reply (or, if OpenAI is unavailable, to Anthropic through OpenRouter, or to Groq), and the reply goes to Fish Audio to be spoken. These providers process it only to answer you. We don't store your recordings. Your conversation is kept on your phone so Smol remembers it, and you can clear it in Settings. We keep a count of how much you've used Talk, tied to an anonymous ID, so each plan stays within its limit. If you report an answer, we keep that answer and your question so a person can review it.
- Portfolio reviews (Galaxy Brain): if you send a project for review, we keep the link, your note and the email you give us, so a person can review it and reply. Deleting your account deletes them.
- Usage and screen recordings: we count simple events like finishing a shift or opening the plans screen, using PostHog, without storing your IP address. If you say yes when the app asks, PostHog also records how you move through the app so we can fix confusing screens. Everything you type, your name and your chats with Smol are blanked out of those recordings, a small dot shows while it is on, and you can turn it off in Settings. Nothing is recorded for anyone under 18.
- Purchases: handled by the App Store or Google Play, with RevenueCat keeping track of which plan you're on. We receive your subscription status, never your card details.
- Device and usage data: app version, crash reports and anonymous usage events, used to fix bugs and improve lessons.
- Galaxy Brain only: portfolio projects you send for review.
Why we use it
- To run the app, keep your progress and send reminders you turned on.
- To review projects you send us and reply by email.
- To keep the service safe and fix problems.
We don't sell your personal data, and we don't use it for third-party advertising.
Consent and your rights
We process your data on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in Settings. Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you can ask to access, correct or erase your data, nominate someone to act for you, and raise a grievance. Settings has Download my data and Delete my account, and deleting removes your account and data within 30 days except where the law requires us to keep records.
Children
Smolbrain is not for anyone under 13. In India, users under 18 can use everything that runs on their phone, and Talk to Smol stays off for them, because it sends their voice to the providers above and the law needs verifiable consent from a parent or guardian first. We don't track anyone under 18 for behavioural monitoring or targeted advertising.
Where data is stored and for how long
We keep your data while your account is active and delete it within 30 days of account deletion. Deleting your account in Settings also deletes your usage count, any answers you reported, and your record at RevenueCat. Our providers may store data outside India, under contracts that protect it.
Grievances and contact
Smolbrain is run by Vedaang Singh, an individual developer in India. Grievance officer: Vedaang Singh, help@smolbrain.lol. We acknowledge complaints within 72 hours and resolve them within the time the law requires. You can also approach the Data Protection Board of India.
